Solar for food, dairy and ice cream plants in Gujarat
In a food plant, the refrigeration never switches off. Renesys designs, builds and maintains rooftop solar that cuts what it costs to run your freezers, chillers and processing lines, without getting in the way of hygiene or production.
The power problem for food plants
Refrigeration is usually the largest single electrical load in a food plant: blast freezers, cold rooms, chillers and compressors. It runs day and night and peaks in summer. Add pasteurisers, packing lines and utilities, and power becomes one of your biggest costs after raw material.
In Gujarat, most HT plants pay roughly ₹7.50–8.50 per unit once energy charges, FPPPA, demand charges and duty are added up.
Why solar fits food plants
Peak demand meets peak sun
Cooling load is highest on hot, sunny afternoons, which is exactly when solar produces the most.
Big, clear roofs
Cold stores and processing halls usually have large roofs with few obstructions.
Steady load all year
Refrigeration uses every unit of solar power, so almost nothing goes back to the grid.
Never at the expense of uptime
Solar runs alongside the grid and your DG set. Your cold chain never depends on the sun alone.
Proof: 935 kWp rooftop plant for an ice-cream maker
An ice-cream and frozen-foods manufacturer in Gandhinagar district wanted to cut the power bill of a busy, fully running plant. Renesys designed and built a rooftop plant on its buildings and handled every approval.
| Capacity | 935 kWp DC / 710 kW AC, rooftop, grid-connected |
| Setting | A running ice-cream plant with heavy, round-the-clock refrigeration load |
| Commissioned | 2023 |
| Design output | About 13–14 lakh units a year |
| Renesys scope | Design, supply, installation, GEDA registration, DISCOM approvals, Chief Electrical Inspector clearance and commissioning |
Registration to charging permission took about four months, with no stoppage of the plant.

What we plan for in food plants
- Food-safety zones: no work above open product areas. Installation is scheduled around your hygiene rules and audits.
- Roof penetrations: leak-proof mounting, so no water ever reaches cold rooms or insulated panels.
- Refrigeration exhaust: condenser and exhaust zones are kept clear, so the modules don’t overheat and airflow isn’t blocked.
- Uptime: solar runs in parallel with the grid and DG set, never in place of them.
What it could save
A 1 MWp rooftop plant in Gujarat produces around 14.5 lakh units a year. Because refrigeration uses nearly all of it, that is over ₹1 crore a year off your power bill at current HT tariffs, with a typical payback of 3–5 years.
Illustrative figures. Your actual saving depends on your tariff, load pattern and roof. We work it out from your last 12 months of bills.
Frequently asked questions
Can solar run our cold rooms at night?
Not directly. Solar covers your daytime cooling load, which is the most expensive part. Night-time load stays on grid power.
Will installation disturb production or hygiene audits?
No. We work in phases, outside product zones, and to your plant’s hygiene rules.
Will mounting damage our insulated roof panels?
We use mounting suited to your roof type and seal every penetration.
Does solar work for cold storage and warehouses too?
Yes. The load is similar and so is the logic.
What do you need from us to get started?
Your last 12 months of electricity bills and access for a roof survey. We send a sizing and savings estimate after that.
