Solar for chemical and pharma plants in Gujarat

Reactors, utilities, chillers and clean rooms keep chemical and pharma plants drawing power around the clock. Renesys builds rooftop and captive solar that cuts the cost of that power, engineered for corrosive air and strict plant-safety rules.

The power problem for chemical plants

A plant that runs 24×7 pays for every unit it uses, all day and all night. In Gujarat, most HT consumers pay roughly ₹7.50–8.50 per unit once energy charges, FPPPA, demand charges and duty are added up. That is a cost competitors in cheaper-power markets don’t carry.

Plants in the Ankleshwar, Bharuch, Dahej, Vapi, Vadodara and Ahmedabad belts are also getting more questions from export customers and investors about their energy use and emissions. Solar gives you a measurable answer.

Why solar fits chemical plants

01

Every unit gets used

A continuous base load uses all the solar power produced. Nothing is wasted and nothing has to be exported.

02

Captive beats a small roof

Under Gujarat’s policy, captive plants don’t pay cross-subsidy or additional surcharge, so a ground-mount plant on land elsewhere is viable when your roof is small or unsuitable.

03

Solar kept clear of hazardous zones

Where a roof sits over a solvent-handling or classified area, the solar goes on a safe roof, a car park or remote land instead.

04

Repeatable as you grow

Start with one plant and add capacity as new units come up. Our chemicals client has done exactly that, twice.

Proof: 5.2 MWp captive plant and two repeat orders

A listed chemicals manufacturer in Mehsana district wanted cleaner, cheaper power for its plant. Renesys built a captive plant on leased land in North Gujarat and wheels the power to the manufacturing unit through the grid.

Capacity 5.192 MWp DC / 3.85 MW AC, ground-mount, Banaskantha district
Model Captive, with power wheeled through the DISCOM to the manufacturing unit
Technology N-type TOPCon bifacial modules, made in India
Grid connection 4.5 km of 11 kV underground cable to a GETCO substation, with a live data link to SLDC/REMC
Performance ~80% performance ratio under Renesys O&M
Repeat business A 2.4 MWp project for the client’s factory in Ankleshwar, and a 337.5 kWp rooftop plant in Bharuch district

What we plan for in chemical plants

  • Corrosion: we choose the mounting-structure coating to match how corrosive the air is at your site, and specify fasteners and earthing to suit.
  • Safety first: layouts respect your hazardous-area classification. No DC cabling or junction boxes go in classified zones, and all work runs through your EHS team and permit-to-work system.
  • Soiling from process emissions: a cleaning schedule based on what actually settles on the modules.
  • Fire safety: DC isolators that emergency responders can reach, clear walkways, and fire-rated cable routing.

What it could save

For a plant that runs 24×7, all of the roughly 14.5 lakh units a year from 1 MWp of solar is used on site. At ₹7.50 or more per unit, that is over ₹1 crore a year off your power bill, with a typical payback of 3–5 years.

Illustrative figures. Your actual saving depends on your tariff, load pattern and roof. We work it out from your last 12 months of bills.

Frequently asked questions

Is rooftop solar allowed on chemical plant roofs?

Usually yes, on roofs outside classified hazardous zones. We review your area classification with your safety team before we design anything.

Our plant runs 24×7. Does solar still make sense?

Yes. Solar covers part of your daytime load, so every unit it produces replaces grid power. For a bigger share, add captive capacity on land elsewhere.

How do you prevent corrosion?

We choose coatings and materials for your site’s corrosion level, and inspect them as part of O&M.

What approvals does captive solar need?

GEDA registration, DISCOM connectivity and wheeling, and the Chief Electrical Inspector’s approval. We handle all of them.

Can we add capacity later?

Yes. Our chemicals client came back for a second captive project and a rooftop plant.
