A listed chemicals manufacturer wanted cleaner, cheaper power for its plant. Renesys delivered a turnkey 5.2 MWp ground-mount captive solar plant in North Gujarat, from land and approvals to grid connection, and runs its O&M. The client has since come back to us for two more projects.
The challenge
A plant of this size has many moving parts, and all of them had to come together in one construction season:
- Leasing and converting the land
- GEDA registration
- The wheeling agreement with the DISCOM
- A 4.5 km dedicated 11 kV line to a 66 kV GETCO substation
- Live data links to the state grid control centres (SLDC and REMC)
What we delivered
Site work before design
We did soil and borehole testing (seven boreholes) and earth-resistivity tests before design. The foundation and earthing designs are based on those results.
Current-generation modules
N-type TOPCon bifacial modules (580–585 Wp), made in India by a Tier-1 manufacturer. They also capture light reflected off the ground.
Power conversion
String inverters feed a 4,200 kVA 11/0.8 kV inverter-duty transformer built to order. We witnessed its factory tests ourselves, and it came in within its guaranteed limits.
Grid connection
4.5 km of 185 sq mm 11 kV XLPE cable, an 11 kV breaker, and ABT main and check meters with 0.2s-class CT/PT metering.
Live grid data link
An RTU and communication link send real-time plant data to the Sub-SLDC and REMC. The link was checked and signed off with GETCO and SLDC.
Every approval, handled
GEDA registration, DISCOM connectivity and estimate, the wheeling agreement, the Chief Electrical Inspector’s charging permission, and meter sealing.
The result
- Running at about 80% performance ratio under Renesys O&M. That’s at the top of the healthy range for a utility-scale plant in Gujarat.
- Repeat business: a 2.4 MWp solar project for the client’s factory in Ankleshwar.
- Repeat business: a 337.5 kWp DC / 240 kW AC rooftop plant at another of its manufacturing units in Bharuch district, built on EPC and maintained by us.
